NOT many can say they have RM1 million saved for their retirement. If you happen to be one of the lucky ones, the EPF has introduced a withdrawal flexibility plan to encourage you to personally invest and manage savings in excess of RM1 million.
Q: Why was this new withdrawal plan introduced?
A: Savings of RM1 million are deemed sufficient to meet the basic retirement needs of members with a high income during retirement. By introducing this new withdrawal plan, members with savings in excess of RM1 million now have the opportunity to invest and manage the excess savings on their own.
Q: Who can apply for this withdrawal?
A: You must be below the age of 55 with a total savings of RM1.05 million in your EPF account. Only contributors with excess of RM1 million in savings are eligible.
Q: Is there a minimum amount for each withdrawal?
A: Yes. Any amount exceeding RM1 million can be withdrawn entirely but the minimum withdrawal amount at any one time must not be less than RM50,000.
Q: How often can I apply for each withdrawal?
A: You can make withdrawals once every three months.
Q: Are savings withdrawn under Investment Withdrawal that have been invested in approved External Funds constitute part of the RM1 million?
A: No, the RM1 million amount only refers to your savings in the EPF and does not include savings invested in the external funds.
Q: Will the withdrawal amount be taken from my Account 1 or 2?
A: The withdrawal amount exceeding RM1 million is taken from Account 2 first and if insufficient, will be taken from Account 1.
Q: How do I apply?
A: You must first complete the KWSP 9B (AHL) Form and produce supporting documents, namely your identification card/MyKad; your bank book or your current account statement of an account which is still active; your passport if you are a Malaysian residing overseas or an expatriate.
Q: How will payment be made?
A: Payment will be made directly into your personal bank account for applications submitted within the country. However, if applications are made from abroad, payments will be made via a foreign bank draft.
